"... Zoe Ann E STUBBE Sex: F Birth: 22 MAY 1950 in Rock Rapids, Lyon County, Iowa Death: 22 FEB 2013 in Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Note: Zoe Ann Madsen May 22, 1950 - February 22, 2013

Zoe Ann E. (Stubbe) Madsen, 62, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013, after battling breast cancer for more than a year. Zoe was born May 22, 1950 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Chas H. and Jean Stubbe. Zoe earned her bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1971, and married her high school sweetheart, Bob, just a few days later. They were married 41 years.

As an Air Force wife, Zoe and her family moved around the US and the world - from Tokyo, Japan to Madrid, Spain - before settling in Merritt Island, Florida in 1990. On Saturday mornings, you could find Zoe on her weekly date with Bob, searching garage sales looking for 'treasures.' Zoe loved reading, planting arrangements of succulents, and baking with her grandchildren. There are no better cookies than the ones that came out of Grandma's kitchen.

Zoe was a crafter; she did needlepoint, cross-stitch, and sewing. She made baskets by weaving natural materials she collected from local vegetation. She never kept the baskets she made; they are all in the homes of family and friends. No activity was too loud or too messy for kids at Zoe's house -- board games, finger paints, swimming in the pool, or mixing something up in the kitchen.

Zoe was a gifted teacher - starting as a middle school math teacher in Omaha, Nebraska, and continuing as a substitute in many of the places she and her family lived during their military travels. Before retiring in 2011, Zoe worked as a safety instructor for United Space Alliance at Kennedy Space Center. She taught 'her guys' as she called them, anyone who dealt with the shuttle, from the cleaning crews to the astronauts (and even on a few occasions, her husband). She loved being a part of the space program, and she was excited for every launch.

Zoe is survived by her husband, Bob Madsen of Merritt Island, FL; her sons, Clint (Bridget) Madsen of Plano, TX and Carl (Korrin) Madsen of Jupiter, FL; her daughter, Paige Madsen of Iowa City, IA; her grandchildren, Abigail, Tanner, Hannah, Faith, and Elizabeth; her mother, Jean Stubbe of George, IA; her brothers, Dennis (Diane) Stubbe of Spirit Lake, IA, Charlie (Sandy) Stubbe of Cherokee, IA, and Brent (Mary) Stubbe of Raleigh, NC; her sisters, Glee (Paul) Wiersma of George, IA, and Jill (Gary) Schmitt of Lee's Summit, MO; and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Chas H. Stubbe; father-in-law, William Madsen; sister, Linda Spiller; and brother, Mahlon Stubbe.
