"Henry Stubbe -- was born in 1870 in the Netherlands. He came to Freeport, Illinois, in 1892. The same year he married Annie Modder and they began farming near Freeport. In 1907 they moved to South Dakota and in 1911 to our area, first northwest of George near the railroad track where the children could watch the train, or the "pumkin roller" as they called it. They finally located four miles southeast of George.

The Stubbes and their family as shown on the picture are, back row: Henry H. (married Bessie Mammenga); Fred H. (married twice, Minnie Konstant and her sister Grace Konstant); Herman H. (married Margaret Woelber); John H. (married Effie Hilbrands); and Enno H. (married Ella Jansen). Front row: Mrs. Stubbe; Esther (Mrs. John H. Hinrichs); Sena (Mrs. Albert Rustman); Charlie H. (married Jean Jamison); Annie (Mrs. Adolph Norman); and Mr. Stubbe."
