"Obituary: Arlon Norman

Arlon Adolf Norman, 78, was born on February 4, 1932, in Osceola County, IA, the son of Adolf and Annie (Stubbe) Norman.

He grew up on the family farm in rural Sibley, IA. Arlon worked for area farmers and for Lloyd and Evelyn Doeden.

He enlisted in the United States Army and served from April 7, 1953 to April 6, 1955.

Arlon married Dora Renken on September 2, 1955, in Allendorf, IA. He worked for the ASC office, checking grain bins for several years.

Arlon worked for George Harberts and then for Dale Ling on their farms.

He owned and operated his own trucking company. He then worked for Ferguson Trucking in Heron Lake, MN, for 25 years.
In the mid 1980's, Arlon started working for Shapiro's Steel Co. which later became Shine Bros. Corp. of Minn. and continued to work there until his retirement in 2010.

Arlon died on Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, IA.

Arlon is survived by his siblings, Evelyn Doeden of Worthington, MN, Ivan (Beverly) Norman of Hobbs, NM, and Lois (Roger) Sixta of Ocheyedan, IA; his in-laws, Margaret (Melvin) Janssen of Bigelow, MN, Russell (Donna) Renken of Sibley, IA, Lester (Marcella) Renken of Sibley, IA, and Marie Bruns of Ashton, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora in 2009, his parents, sister, Dolores Wolf, brother, Junior Norman, sister-in-law, Lois Renken, and three brothers-in-law, Robert Wolf, Marvin Bruns, and Lloyd Doeden.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Gordon J. Orde officiating.

Casket bearers will be Mark Janssen, Melvin Janssen Jr., Clint Sixta, Grant Sixta, Jim VanderVeen, and Joel Hinrichs. Burial will be in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.

Memorials are preferred to Osceola Hospice.
