Mae Folkema was born on June 22, 1923 at George, Iowa, the daughter of William and Minnie (Goldhorn) Siebrands. She graduated from the George High School and the Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She married Henry E. Kruse on August 29, 1945 at Hope Reformed Church parsonage of George, Iowa. They farmed west of George. Mae was a school teacher for 40 years -- first 14 years in country school and the remaining 26 years in the George Elementary School. Henry died in January of 1991. One August 7, 1993 Mae was married to John Folkema in Grant, Michigan. After she moved to Michigan she remained in close contact with her family and friends, visiting them as often as she could. She became very involved in Grant Christian Reformed Church. She was a member of Dorcas Society and helped cordinate the church centennial celebration. Mae loved the Lord and her prayer was that all those she loved would share in that same love.

She was survived by her husband John of Sand Lake, Michigan; two nephews, Dwayne Siebrands of Sheldon, Iowa, and Alan and Beth Siebrands of Good Thunder, Minnesota. and their children: Eric, Dave, and Mike Siebrands and Meghan and Michael Johns; step children Bob and Joanie Folkema of Jenison, Michigan; Bev and Jim Felkey of Wyoming, Michigan; Fred and Faye Folkema of Sand Lake, Michigan; Tim and Sherry Folkema of Casnovia, Michigan; Dan and Sharon Folkema of Fremont, Michigan; Jane and Doug Walstra of Grover City, Ohio; 17 step grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law, Georgia Siebrands; Donna Kruse, Margaret Kruse and Arlys Kruse.
