John E. Ruter, 95, of Wellsburg, Iowa, passed away Christmas morning December 25, 2007 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

John was born December 23, 1912 on the family farm near Wellsburg, Iowa, the son of Eike and Trientje (Luppen) Ruter. He attended country school, Shiloh #6, near Wellsburg. ...

Survivors include: one daughter Nadene and her husband Ken Van Hauen of Grundy Center; two grandchildren Clint Van Hauen of Colo, Iowa, and his fiancée: Sarah Sandblom of Des Moines, Iowa, and Krista Van Hauen of Peoria, Illinois; and two sisters Emma de Neui of Ackley and Alice Ruter of Wellsburg.

Wellsburg - Eike Ruter, 78, Sunday at his home two miles southwest of Wellsburg of carcinoma; born May 31, 1858 [should be 1868 based on his age and census records] in Grundy county, Ia.; married Trientje Luppen Mar. 25, 1897; couple had spent all their married life on the same farm; leaves wife, 13 children, John, Herman, Fred, Peter, Mrs. John Heinrichs, Mrs. Henry Rieken, Mrs. Roy DeNeui and Mrs. Delbert B. Lindaman, all of Wellsburg; Mrs. John Meyer, Parkersburg; Mrs. George Beck, Des Moines: Jessie, Alice and Eike, Jr., at home: 10 grandchildren; funeral, 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home, later at the Wellsburg Reformed Church; burial in the First Christian Reformed cemetery west of Wellsburg.
