SP5 US ARMY VIETNAM

Walter James Murrer (74) of Jacksonville, Florida affectionately known as Jimmy or Jim to family and friends passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 13, 2022. He was surrounded at bedside by his wife Linda and three daughters, Dana, Kristie and Jamie.

Jim was a devoted, loving husband of 55 years to his high-school sweetheart Linda (Hoover) and the best Daddy and Grandpa/Papa in the entire world.

Jim graduated from Jean Ribault High School June 1966 and married Linda December 20, 1966. He enlisted in the US Army and served from 1966-1969 in the Aviation Air Calvary 17th Brigade as an aviation mechanic while deployed to Vietnam.

His love for racing and stock cars was surpassed only by his love for family. He spent countless hours working on engines in his garage, and spent his free time at race car and go kart tracks all over. He instilled his love for racing into many and can be remembered by most for building go kart engines for his company Engine Tech Performance and race car engines for the family business J&W Engine Service.

He was the oldest of four children, Susan Henley (Terry), Joe Murrer (Mary), and Patti Brueggemann (John). He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter "Walt" and Carolyn Murrer, Father in Law, Herman Hoover and Brother in Law, Terry Henley. He is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Dana Williams (Andy), Kristie Sims (Jeff), Jamie Blalock (Wayne), 5 grandchildren: Drew, Lauryn, Chance, Ally and Ava and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as, his Mother in Law, Betty Hoover and Sister in Law, Sandy Hoover Young.

Family will receive friends at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd, Jacksonville FL on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 5:30pm-6:30pm with a memorial service (Celebration of Life) held directly after at 6:30pm. He will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetary with military honors.
