"Lawrence Leibrand, 88

Lawrence Leibrand, age 88 of Buffalo Center, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark Street inForest City. Burial will be in the spring at Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

Lawrence Henry "Saint" Leibrand was born on November 29, 1920 at Mountain Lake, Minnesota, a son of Lee W. and Grace (Asmus) Leibrand. In 1928 the family moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa for a short time before moving to Buffalo Center, Iowain 1929. Lawrence was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed Church of Buffalo Center. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School with the class of 1938.

Lawrence, along with his father Lee, ran a dairy in Buffalo Center for a few years. On October 16, 1944, he was united in marriage to Mildred Heitland in Forest City. the couple made their home in Buffalo Center where they purchased theIce Cream Shop in April of 1945 and ran it for a year. Lawrence then went to work for W.E. Ley Ford dealership in Lakota as a salesman. In 1964 he was selected as a top salesman among the nations's leading Ford dealerships. He latersold feed for the Kerber Milling Company of Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Lawrence loved baseball and was a serious Yankees fam. En enjoyed buying homes and remodeling them. Millie passed passed away of January 5, 1986. Lawrence married Karen Hanson Blanshan Gordon in 1989. She passed away on July 19,2005.

Lawrence is survived by two step-sons, Doublas Blanshan of Albert Lea, Minnesota and David Blanshan of Buffalo Center, one step-daughter Ann Gordon Wenthold and her husband, Chuck of Jefferson, Iowa, three step-grandchildren, Jessica,Adam and Ashley Blanshan of Albert Lea, Minnesota, cousins Elmer "Shorty" Leibrand of Buffalo Center and Dorothy Heesch of Thompson, sister-in-law Ruth Leibrand of Forest City, nephew Les (Belinda) Leibrand of Crystal Lake, IA, niecesNancy (Tom) Bugler of Frederick, MD, Lorrie (Mike) Tritch of Indianola, IA and Patti Jo Leibrand of Fort Dodge, IA, 12 great-nieces and nephews and 8 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, brother Harold Leibrand in 1994 and sister Lucille Burma in 2007. <>
