Craig was born in Buffalo Center on March 7, 1959, to Marvin and Beverly (Miller) Heyes. He graduated from Buffalo Center Community School District in 1977. Craig continued his education at Mankato Area Vocational Technical Institute and graduated in 1978. But when he relocated to the Boston area, Craig adopted that area's professional sports teams and enjoyed cheering on his favorites; the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed golfing and was an avid movie buff who would often quote lines from various movies in conversations to punctuate his point. Craig had a hearty laugh and an infectious personality.
