Heyo Berschman was born at Grundy Center, Iowa in 1887. He came to Lakota with his family as a child.
Flora Schaefer was born in Springfield, Illinios in 1890. She came to Buffalo center with her family as a small child. Heyo was a farmer and Flora taught country schools near Lakota for seven years.
Heyo and Flora were married on March 21, 1917, and moved to the farm south of Lakota where they lived from 1917 to 1953. They raised a family of two girls and two boys;
Ruth was born in 1918
Kathryn in 1921
John and Joe in 1926.
Ruth married Donald Clapper, Kathryn married Eugene Newel, John married Jane Smidt, Joe married Dorothy Ruby.
