Funeral services for John Uken, 87 were held Friday, September 4. Rev. Lloyd Nussbaum officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services at the Titonka United Methodist Church.

Casket bearers were Gery Uken, Gene Uken, Leslie Uken, Ubbe Meyer, Roger Gerdis and Douglas Mechler.

Interment was in Buffalo Township Cemetery with Gerry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Uken passed away Wednesday, September 2 in the Titonka Care Center where he had been a resident since 1983.

John Henry Uken was born on a farm near Lakota, Iowa on February 10, 1900, the son of Reiner and Etta (Harringa) Uken. After attending rural school he later worked on the farm with his brother.

John was married to Christina Ricks on February 25, 1926 at Algona. They farmed northwest of Titonka until 1937 when they moved to their farm south of Titonka. Mrs. Uken passed away in 1957 and John retired and moved to Titonka in1964.

Besides his great love of the land and farming, he also enjoyed fishing. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church.

John is survived by a son, George of Titonka, four grand-children and two great grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a son Edward in 1980, a brother and sister." <>
