"... Johann Rudolph Tholen (my great grandfather) immigrated to the US and settled in Golden, Illinois. He was a carpenter, like his father. He married the daughter of another earlier immigrant from Riepe, Heinrich Harm Franzen, who was oneof the original pioneer settlers in Golden. Johann changed his name when he got to the US and used a more "American name" of John Henry Tholen. In the 1920's he and his wife and many other members of their family moved to southernCalifornia and stayed there the rest of their lives. John and Anna Tholen were my mother's grandparents.

Daphne Claire (my mother) married William Kenneth Frew; and they had 3 daughters: Phyllis Ann, Suzanne Elaine, and me - Claudia Louise. Daphne is still living but Ken passed on about 16 years ago. Roberta Anne married Robert Hughes; and they had 2 children; Scott and Marianne. Both Roberta and Robert passed on several years ago. Their children are still living. Bonnie June married Jack Freckleton; they adopted a son, Bradley. Bonnie passed away about 1973 and Brad is still living. Lee Verne married John Paul (JP) Snodgrass; they adopted a daughter, Lindsay and then had a child of their own, Darin. Lee Verne and JP and their children are still living. ..."
