John Quentin Buffington, 76, Mason City, died Tuesday, September 04, 2012, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A celebration of life service for John will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Ave, Mason City, with Pastor Steve Hansen officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy. 18 West, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126-3rd Street NE, Mason City. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the family in his memory.

The family would like to suggest that those that will be attending the visitation on Friday or the service on Saturday would dress in casual attire.

John Quentin Buffington was born on August 4, 1936, in Lakota, Iowa, the son of Orville and Gertrude (Sleper) Buffington. John received his education in the Crystal Lake Community School system and also helped his parents on the farm in rural Crystal Lake. John and Evelyn have resided in Mason City since 1967. During his life John was a carpenter for 55 years until his retirement in 1999.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Holck on November 7, 1955, in Britt, Iowa.

John enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Evelyn Buffington of Mason City; children, Betty Compton of Hamilton, TX, Gerry (Tammy) Buffington, Lorri (Larry) Meinders, and Kurrt Buffington all of Mason City; grandchildren, Taylor Compton, Ian Buffington, Megan, Hilary, and Cody Navratil, Rhett, Brianna, and Elle Buffington; great-grandchildren, Bradyn Enabnit, and Cameron Navratil; brothers, Marlyn (Jane) Buffington, Forrest (Jan) Buffington, and Beryl (Sharon) Buffington; sisters, Lois Lonning, Iola (Harvey) Schafer, Sandra (Verne) Brunsen, and Sharon (Doug) Grimm; a sister-in-law, Leona Buffington; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lee Buffington; and a sister, Alice Bates.
