Brenda was born the daughter of Meryle and Bonita Smith Johnson. After graduating from Worthington High School in 1983, she attended Mankato State College and went on to teach jazzercise. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and it reoccurred in 2016. Brenda married Guy Behrens on March 1, 1991, in Las Vegas, NV. She became a certified optician in 1998 and worked at Shopko for 31 years. Brenda taught vacation bible school for many years and volunteered for various activities throughout her lifetime and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Brenda passed away at her mother's home.

Brenda is survived by her husband; daughter, Whitney Behrens; mother, Bonita Zinnel; and four siblings, Leanne (Paul) Langseth, Terry (Teresa) Johnson, Connie (Mark) Entsminger, and Mark (Michelle) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her father, Meryle.

Memorial services will be held on December 21, 2016, at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Gary Andersen officiating.
