"Cyndi Winter, 44

Cyndi Winter, 44, of Buffalo Center, departed from this life on Friday morning, April 3, 2009 peacefully at her home after a long battle with melanoma. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. William Peake officiating. Music was furnished by Marlene Krull, organist; Carole Kettwick, pianist; Brian Kramersmeier, soloist and the Algona Cornbelt Chorus. Honorary bearers were Ronda Martinson and Peggy Mastin. Active casketbearers were Darrell Brandt, John Cowin, Doug DeBoer, Travis Hassebroek, Tim Martinson and Rod Olthoff. Burial was in Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center. The Winter Funeral Home of Buffalo Center was in chargeof arrangements.

In 1964, the same year that the Beatles came to America, Cynthia Marie was born to Michael and Bonita (Burdash) Jellinek on October 13 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Cyndi, the only child of Mike and Bonnie, grew up in St. Paul attending schoolat Jefferson Elementary, Battle Creek Junior High, and graduating Cum Laude from Hill-Murray High School in 1982 and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Cyndi then went on to the University of Minnesota, where she "majored" in the Marching Band playing the flute and piccolo. This is where she met Kirk in 1983, in a stairwell of the dorm, Middlebrook Hall, where they both lived. Since Kirkwas a senior and she a freshman, the relationship turned into a long distance love affair when Kirk moved to Rochester. She attended the U of M for another year, then entered the tax program at St. Paul Technical College receiving her Associates Degree in Accounting.

On September 6, 1986 at St. Marks Lutheran Church, St. Paul, Cyndi and Kirk exchanged their vows. The couple made Rochester their home. Cyndi was a tax tech for McGladrey & Pullen and also began to work on her bachelor's degree. In the fall of 1987, they moved to Eagan and she transferred to"

In 1988 she received her Bachelors Degree from Metropolitan State University and then passed the Certified Public Accountant exam on the first attempt in which she was so proud of. Cyndi and Kirk moved to Buffalo Center, Iowa in the fall of 1990. Samantha Corrine was born in November of that year and Alex Michael completed the family in October of 1993.

Cyndi did some part time work with Farmer's Trust & Savings Bank and with Sue Kiewiet at MinnIowa, and was a C.P.A. with Erpelding, Voigt and Company in Algona since 1991. Cyndi also was Kirk's bookkeeper at the funeral home. Cyndi was very musical, something she loved. Playing piano, in the band, the musical "My Fair Lady" in high school, the marching Gophers, being in the Buffalo Center Centennial Pageant in 1992, and being a part of Lake Mills Communitysang with the adult choir as well. She loved the music of the 1980's hair bands and has every Elton John album.

Traveling was something she and her parents enjoyed. From the family trips with her parents and grandparents, Hill-Murray band trips to California, Florida, Canada, New York City, Washington DC and the U

of M marching band to other Big 10 campuses and even to London, England in 1984. Cyndi, Kirk and the kids enjoyed traveling cross-country several times and many fall vacations to Orlando.

Hockey was a part of Cyndi's life since high school, but when she came to Iowa she thought her hope of being a Hockey Mom was lost. Little did she know that after the family turned into fans of the Minnesota Wild, her children both wantedto and their games, Cyndi and Alex attended a week of parent/child hockey camp where she was on the ice and doing the drills and playing the game.

Cyndi and Kirk built their dream home and moved to the country in August of 2000. She watched her kids go from children to adults there. She loved taking walks down the gravel roads with King and Oreo and being able to see the sunrise andsunset without obstruction. That city girl loved the rural life. In May of 2008 life changed when the diagnosis came in that she had cancer. Cyndi's optimism blossomed and her will was strong. She kept pace with her work, cared for her family and continued planning for the future with Samantha'sgraduation and a summer trip all set. But on Friday morning, April 3, comfortable in her bedroom, peace came to her and Cyndi departed from this life at the age of 44.

Her memory will always be cherished by her husband Kirk, daughter Samantha, and son Alex. Also by her dad and mom Mike and Bonnie Jellinek of St. Paul; her father and mother-in-law George and Evelyn Winter of Buffalo Center;brothers/sisters-in-law Randy and Laura Winter of Forest City and Bart and Medara Winter of Lake Mills; as well as her nieces Natalie, Rebecca, Kessa, Sarah and Jenny; nephews Kyle and Tyler, and by many aunts, uncles, cousins and many,many dear friends. Cyndi was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents and by a very special aunt, Josie Burdash."
