SWEA CITY - A funeral for Lori J. (Work) Uken, was held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Swea City. Burial was in Harrison Township Cemetery, rural Swea City.

Lori June (Work) Uken was born March 3, 1958, the daughter of Harvey and Lorraine (Welp) Work. She grew up in the Swea City area, beginning her education in Grant Township and then the Swea City School System. She completed hereducation graduating from Algona High School through Exceptional Opportunities. She lived and worked in the Algona area for several years after completing school. She later moved to Clear Lake and was employed through OpportunityVillage. In 1999, Lori married her childhood sweetheart, Leslie Ukken. Lori and Leslie continued living and working in Clear Lake. Due to medical concerns Lori moved to the Titonka Care Center in August 2009, where she quickly won the hearts of her caregivers.

In hopes of helping to improve the quality of life for someone else, it was Lori's wish to become an organ donor upon her passing. We have been informed that the lives of at least five people and their families have been dramaticallychanged due to the generosity of Lori's donation. Lori died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa at the age of 51.

Among those thankful to have shared in Loris' [sic] life are her husband, Leslie Uken, of Clear Lake; her father, Harvey Work Sr.; brother, Harvey Work Jr.; sister-in-law, Sharon Work; three sisters, Pamela Lux, Paula Work and companionMitch Ninley, and Janine Kinnander and her husband Loren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Amy Walter ahd husband Brooks, Mathias Lux, Jerod Work and his wife Sheri, Adam Lux and his wife Joni, Courtney Kinnander, WhitneyKinnander, Claudia Kinnander, and Brandy Kinnander; and great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Hambrick, Ezra Hambrick, Trinity Lux, Jasmine Lux, Peyton Work, Kadin Walter, Jordan Lux, Kolton Walter, Karson Work, Graham Lux and Kyan Walter.

Lori is preceded [sic] in death by her paternal grandparents, Harley and Emma (Standerfer) Work; her maternal grandparents, Fred and Jennie (Groen) Welp; her mother Lorraine (Welp) Work; her brother, Timothy Work; a nephew, SpencerKinnander; and her parents-inlaw, Ed and Marlene Uken.
