Note: Richard Ebbenga, 81, of Reading died Thursday December 29, 1994 at Worthington Regional Hospital. Born February 7, 1913 in Summit Lake Township, Nobles County, MN he was the son of Cornelius and Lena (Ackerman) Ebbenga. He married EllenHilfers Febraury 6, 1940.

His family moved to Sibley, IA in 1919 and lived on 2 different farms until moving to DeSmet, SD in 1923. He attended a country elementary school there. They moved to George, IA in 1933. He was employed as a farm worker and as a truckdriver for wonder Bread for 1 year. The couple lived in the Reading area and farmed for 2 years. He also was employed as a carpenter. The couple moved to Bancroft, SD until moving to Iona in 1946 and returning to Reading in 1950. He wasemployed as a substitute mail carrier and also as a construction worker.

Surviving are his wife; 2 sons James Ebbenga, Philadelphia, PA and Rodney Ebbenga, Fargo, ND; 1 daughter Mrs Nita (Steve) McClintick, Chanchassen; 1 brother Peter Ebbenga, Sibley, IA; 2 sisters Margaret Revel, Sibley and Kathryn Schmidt,Reading; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7-9 Sunday at the Benson funeral home, Worthington. The service will be 10:30 Monday at the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Reading with the Rev Glenn Polzine officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
