"Wessel Jutting was born in Oldenburg, Hollowege, Germany on December 4, 1852 to George and Fenna (manshold) Jutting. His mother died in 1858; later, his father married Anna Duen, ... The family landed at Baltimore, Maryland on August30, 1881 and went to Ackley, Iowa. In 1888 they moved to Lyon County, Iowa. The father died on September 18, 1896, and the stepmother on September 16, 1903. Both are buried at Zion Lutheran Cemetery at George, Iowa.

Wessel Jutting was married to Sophie M. C. Asche on March 21, 1886. She was born near Freeport, Illinois on December 20, 1864. They lived for a number of years in Wellsburg and then moved to their farm in German Township, KossuthCounty. Wessel was especially interested in horses along with farming.

Their children were: Fannie (Wirtjes), born December 19, 1886 and died June 10, 1984; Matilda (Smith), born October 19, 1888 and died July 12, 1963; Anna (Wirtjes) born January 14, 1891 and died March 31, 1972; August, born July 5, 1892and died March 31, 1957; George W., born March 1, 1896 and died March 20, 1980; John, born January 22, 1898 and died August 7, 1975; Christena (Heyer), born May 4, 1900 and died January 6, 1900.

Wessel died on October 18, 1900 following an accident caused by a run-away team of horses. Sophie died on January 19, 1933. They were faithful members of Immanuel Lutheran Church near Titonka, Iowa. Both were laid to rest in thecemetery adjoining the church."

Jutting came to U.S.A. in 1882 Wessel was buried in German Valley Cemetery, in German Valley where the church is also. he was one of four men who led the congregationin the building of the first church on 30 Jan.1899. He was killed in Oct.1900. He was the first one buried in the cemetery, after the church was built.
