"Deidrick [Dick] Groen -- was born in Ostfriesland Germany, and came to the United States in 1880 at the age of thirteen. In 1898 he married Aleida Meyer and in 1909 they moved from Hancock County, Iowa, to a farm southwest of George.

The Groen family as pictured are, top row: John (married Amelia Boomgaarden); and Zena (Mrs. Harm Hating). Bottom row: Benhard (married Jenny Nagel); Mr. Groen holding Dick, one of the twins (and he was killed on Leyte Island in WorldWar II); Gertie (died at the age of six); Mrs. Groen holding Orvel, Dick's twin brother (married Alice Nagel); and Grace (Mrs. George Walters).
