Merwyn E. Koestler, 81, who resided with his daughter, Marilyn Roth, of Hazel Green, Wis., and formerly of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at theEgelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday.

He was born on Sept. 29, 1926, in Titonka, Iowa, son of Minor Joe and Gertrude (Moore) Koestler. He married Dorothy Albers on Aug. 3, 1946; she preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 1993.

Merwyn was a veteran of the Air Force. He was a self employed plasterer until his retirement in 1993. Merwyn was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the local Moose Lodge in Punta Gorda.

Surviving are his daughter, Marilyn (John) Roth, of Hazel Green, Wis.; a son, Merwyn "Butch" (Sandra Bales) Koestler, of Ohio; his grandchildren, Sue (Mark) Tranel, of Platteville, Wis., Chris (Kam) Roth, of Livingston, Wis., Tim(Darlene) Roth, of South Carolina, Becky and Jason Roth, both of Hazel Green, Wis., Patty (Gary Anderson) Koestler, of Montfort, Wis., Gary (Kim) Koestler, of Florida, Allan (Carol) Koestler, of Alabama, and Carol Koestler, of California;12 great-grandchildren, including his special buddy, Trent; four step-great grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren; his brothers, Dale (Marilyn) Koestler, of Tennessee, and Gerald (MaryAnn) Koestler, of Spain.

He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Roth, on July 30, 1991.

A Merwyn E. Koestler Memorial Fund has been established.
