Lee Russell writes, "obituary - 10-5-1912 Charles Alvey (Susan Badders - The man who conducted the first milk dairy in Muncie (Indiana) was Charles Alvey, is dead at Hartford City.

When he was first in the business five cows fully supplied the wants of the city. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harriett Ross who is in charge of the Parker Hotel in Hartford City.

Fourteen weeks ago he was stricken with paralysis and gradually failed until death relieved his suffering.

A native of England he was 76 years of age. He first lived at White Pigeon Michigan. When Charles was 17 the family moved to Muncie, (IN.) where he resided until 6 years ago when his wife (Susan Badders) died. He moved to Millgrove(Blackford Co. NE of Muncie) to live with Mrs. Ross. (note _ cee.) grandau. Clev[enger] said Aung Jen took him in, the apparently he went to live with Harriett Ross. (Charles Alvey had 9 children.) Continued page 2 -"

"p.2 - Charles Alvey obituary He was a member of Muncie Friends Church. When he was 27, he was naturalized as an American citizen. He was father of 9 children. but 2 of these survived. Funeral Sunday forenoon at the Parker Hotel incharge of Rev. William Buckles of Millgrove. (Charles Alvey is buried at Beech Grove. Muncie.)

Lee Russell writes, "Note Later research, about the creamery (dairy business started by Charles Alvey. John Cullen's wife Miranda Waldren had a sister named Roxanna who married an Athey - she had a married daughter, a spinster daughterand a son Henry Athey who committed suiside. The 'old maid' was good Bookkeeping - and managed the dairy with her brother. Some of the Alveys also lived nearby, in nice homes circa 1900 - they would be listed as teamsters - drivingteams of horses - delivering milk and butter etc. Sh that is how I came up with Waldren." - xv Nov MCMXCIII

5 Oct 1912 was on a Saturday. The funeral was held on a Sunday. I am using the funeral date of 6 Oct 1912 for date of burial.

Lee Russell writes, "Chas. Alvey died 1912; the uncle who started creamery was cared for by my grandmother's sister Aunt Jen Lutz. Later he went to live in hotel at Hartford City - north of Muncie (17 miles) where his daughter Hattie Rossmanaged a hotel. Charles Alvey had strokes. I later found an obit where it mentioned he was son of Vincent Alvey and Charlotte Cullen and at one time he lived w/ relative (he was about 17) at White Pigeon, Michigan." - xx Nov MCMXCIII
