"Art K. Harkness Died, Rites Held Here Monday

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center on Monday, September 4, 1961 for Mr. Arthur R. Harkness with the pastor, Rev. George Kots in charge. Mr. Harkness passed away at the home of his son-in-law anddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sleper Friday, September 1, 1961. He was 78 years, 9 months and 25 days of age.

Interment took place at the Union Cemetery at Iowa Falls, Iowa. Pallbearers were Anton Rank, Jake Mastin, R. T. DeVries, Sr., Frank Elwood, K. H. Elman and Harold Bohl.

Arthur R. Harkness, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Harkness, was born in Kansasville, Wisconsin on November 6, 1882. His parents moved to Raymond, South Dakota shortly thereafter, where his father died. His mother then married Mr. FrankRaddle. When was still a small boy, in 1891, the family moved to a farm eight miles southeast of Buffalo Center where he grew into manhood.

On January 30, 1908, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Jane Seeley of Iowa Falls at his parents home in Buffalo Center They resided in this community until 1935 when they moved to Hubbard, Iowa where he was preceded in death by hiswife on August 14, 1936. He returned to Buffalo Center in 1938 where he spent his remaining years with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Albert Sleper, Jr.

He is survived by three children, Merrill of Albuquerque New Mexico, Charles of Thompson, Iowa, and Ruby of Buffalo Center; three brothers, Earl of Des Moines, Lester of Rock Rapids, and William of St. Paul

Minnesota; six grandchildren and iree great grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Relatives attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and ilrs. Lester Raddle and Larry of lock Rapids, Mrs. Gordon Blakey of Sherburn, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Harkness of Des Moines, Miss Marjorie Harkness of Greeley, Colorado,Mrs. James ^harlson and Rose and Alice McGuire of Forest City, Merrill larkness of Albuquerque, New VIexico, Glen Harkness of Minneipolis, Minn., William Raddle of St. Paul, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. D e n n i s Knoner of Siloam Springs, Arkansas."
