''Bailey Establishments Held in High Esteem' from 'Olde Waterville', June Huffman, 1994, L.J. Publishers, Grand Rapids, Ohio, states the the community of Bailey (south of Waterville) was once known for its commercial establishmentsalthough there is little evidence today that suggests several thriving businesses ever existed there. A rural mail carrier recalls that the grocery was run by Jesse and Maude Morningstar.

The school and post office were known as 'Fancher' - probably because numerous Fanchers lived in the vicinity. The postmasters were: William S Patton, April 23, 1891, and Ezra Morningstar, Nov 2, 1894 until March 19, 1908, when the officewas dissolved; on April 14, 1908, the postal patrons were absorbed into the Waterville office.

1910 census for Waterville Twp. shows Jesse, 21 yrs old, single, living with parents and working as a grocery clerk. The same census shows Jesse's father, Ezra, as the grocery merchant.

1920 census for Waterville Twp. shows Jesse, 30 yrs old, married to Maude M., with a 6 yr old daughter, Viola M., and is a grocery merchant. The 1920 census for Maumee Village, Waynesfield Twp., shows Ezra working as a laborer in a meatmarket.

1930 census for Ottawa Hills Village, Washington Twp, Lucas Co., Ohio shows Jesse, 41 yrs old, married to Thea (born in Germany and immigrated in 1925) for 4 yrs, living as a boarder and working as a public school janitor.

George Morningstar, son of Ira Morningstar, recalls that Jesse and German-born wife returned to her home in Germany to live.
