SGT (Ret) Howard "June" Wagner, Jr, 81, passed away Friday night December 30, 2016 at his home in Anderson surrounded by his loving family. June was born October 1, 1935 in Elwood, Indiana to the late Mary Ann (Shrock) McCord. He married Peggy Evelene Zachary on November 15, 1958. They had 6 children from their union and divorced in 1973. In 1978 he married Narce (Mahan) Jones Wagner and became the step-father of 3 children. He retired from the U.S. Army on December 31, 1988 with over 21 years of Military Service. During his 8 years of active duty he was stationed Camp Atterbury, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Grissom Air Force Base and Germany and Panama as a Military Policeman during the vietnam war. He spent his remaining years in the 38th Military Police Company in the Indiana Army National Guard. He received his GED while on active duty. Howard was a recipient of the Army Good Conduct Medal & the National Defense Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and an expert rifleman. He was a lifetime member of the National Guard Association of Indiana. He was employed at several jobs between his military career until he finally settled down in Peru Indiana and retired in 1991 from Sealed Power in Rochester, Indiana after 25 years of service. He was an avid fisherman, liked all water activities, and enjoyed playing cards. Howard will be remembered by most for his constant need for picking on people and his favorite saying, "I love you; a little bit, once in a while, sometimes". Howard is survived by his nine children: Mary (Mike) Klock, Peggy (Charles) Williams, Tammy (Billy) Gordon, Scotty Wagner, all of Anderson, Donna (Danny) Hodson, of Morgantown; Howard "Butch" (Tammy) Wagner, III, of Pensacola, Florida; Dwayne (Sandy) Jones, Sheila (Tony) Ousley, & Casey (Patty) Jones, all of Peru. Four brothers: Virgil (Della) McCord, of Anderson; Frank (Cathy) McCord, of Michigan; Charles (Brenda) McCord, of Warren; Ernest "Ernie" (Phyllis) McCord, of Peru, and one sister: Hazel Carpenter, of Wabash. He will be missed by his 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, & several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Virgil & Mary (Shrock) McCord; three brothers: Fred McCord, Sr.; Leslie McCord, & Jerry McCord; four sisters: Marilyn McCord, Anna Lycan, Sue Hall and Peggy Learned; one grandchild: Misti Wagner and one great-grandchild: Kyle William Ashkettle. The family would like to extend a thank you to Above & Beyond and Community Hospice Service for their compassion, support, and understanding that was given to June and his family. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 1 pm Friday, January 6, 2017 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W 3rd Street in Peru. Friends may call from 10am - 1pm on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Kokomo Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery located in Kokomo, Indiana.
