Margaret Alwood Bailey, a resident of Charlottesville VA for almost 90 years, passed away peacefully the morning of August 7th 2007 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA. She had resided in the Lutheran Home at Topton, PA for thepast year. Born December 8, 1916 in Broadway, VA, she was the daughter of the late Fannie Herrmann and Hubert J. Alwood. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Harvey Bailey, her sister Frances Alwood Mahanes, and two brothersWilliam B. Alwood of Waynesboro and H. Jackson Alwood. Mrs. Bailey had been a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for most of her life and had only recently transferred her membership to Grace Lutheran Church in Topton. Sheretired in the early 1970’s after a 37-year career as a photographic retoucher at the Gitchell’s studio in Charlottesville and also a Gitchell’s Studio in Harrisonburg, VA. Mrs. Bailey was an active member of the Charlottesville Woman’sClub for many years. She was a loving mother and devoted wife. She is survived by two daughters, Anita (Bailey) Bussey who currently resides in Yelm, WA and Roberta (Robbie) B. Flynn and her husband Tom, of Macungie, PA; three brothers,H. Stanley Alwood of Lambert, MI, Robert L. Alwood of Suffolk, VA, and Richard D. Alwood of Danville, VA; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday August 11, 2007 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 2416 Jefferson Park Avenue, Charlottesville, VA with the Rev. Rod Houppert officiating. A reception will follow the service.Interment will follow in the Bailey family cemetery in Kinsale, VA at 3 pm. There will be a reception at Carmel Methodist Church in Kinsale. The family will receive friends at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home on Friday, August 10th from 6pm to 8 pm.

The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 2416 Jefferson Park Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22903 or to the Kinsale Foundation Fund, P.O. Box 307, Kinsale, VA 22488."
