Notes about Martin Kite

The information on this family page (marriage to Catharine Kiser) is from "The Kite Family of Champaign County" by Denise Kay Mahan Moore 1989. This information is documented through "Rockingham County Marriages, 1778-1850" Virginia Historical Marriage Register, John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr., Iberian Publishing Co. Athens, GA, 1984.
The information below gives a different name for his wife but lists the same children. It also list different dates for his birth and death.

Taken from "The Kite Family" by Virginia A. Kite published between 1898 & 1910

"Martin, secind son of William, Sr., was born 1776 and died in 1838. He married Elizabeth Koiner, and lived near Grove Hill, VA. His distinguished characteristic, or habit rather, was his persistency. His death was due to the habit of carrying his thumbs in the arm-holes of his vest. He had practiced this habit so long that he was drowned with his thumbs so entangled in the arm-holes of his vest that he could not remove them, even to save his life."
"His wife, who was Elizabeth Koiner, was a woman of very rare intelligence, and in personal appearance was tall, thin and rather frail; she had a bright, kindly eye, a frank, honest face, and was gifted with that fluency of speech and refreshing vivacity that made friends everywhere."
