Als proloog in het "Geslachtregister van de familie Hesselink" :

"Volgens een handschrift van Pieter Hesselink overgeschreven door Willem Jacobs hesselink (1714-1793) was hij in 1623 Deeventer komen wonen en heeft aldaar het burgerrecht verkregenen de gilde gehad van het Bombazijnambt. Later schijnt hij in Hollland gewoond te hebben en lid te zijn geweest van de Oud Vlamsche gemeente te Haarlem en Zaandam en volgens een bewijs van zijn broederschapin dato 12 maart 1656 wegens die gemeente tot de gemeente van deventer; zijnde echter in dat stuk (dat bij de familie Cardinaal moet berusten) zijn naam geschreven Pieter Heslingh."
Na het overlijden van Berendje verhuist Pieter in 1649 naar Haarlem.
In 1656 keert hij terug naar Deventer.

In de Bocholter Kroniek staat vermeld, dat tussen 1600 en 1632 maar liefst 155 protestantse en in specifiek menistische families op bevel van de regering uit het stadje zijn verdreven. Dit kan een verklaring zijn voor de verhuizing van Pieter van Bocholt naar Deventer. Aangezien hij in 1616 nog in Bocholt trouwt, behoort hij niet tot de 18 mennonietische families die in 1611 als eerste uit het stadje werden verdreven.
