Notes about Willem van der Torre

Willem van der Torre, te Kralingen, later wonende in Hillegersberg aan de Bergse Linker Rottekade, tegenover de Prinsemolen. Hij had een vishandel in Rotterdam en exporteerde naar het buitenland.
Willem heeft zijn vrouw een halve eeuw overleefd en heeft nog wel ongeveer zes jaren samengeleefd met huishoudster Alida (?).
Op 49-jarige leeftijd stopte Willem met werken en werd 'rentenier'. Bij zijn overlijden liet hij na een zuiver vermogen met de waarde van 57.000 gulden, bestaande uit effecten en het pand met erf Bergse Linker Rottekade 172, gemeente Hillegersberg, getaxeerd op 8500 gulden. Deze taxatie, aangemeld voor de successierechten, is onwaarschijnlijk laag. Er zijn bij de afwikkeling door executeur-testamentair schoonzoon Herman Muus onder erfgenamen protesten gerezen.
Willem was een stevige persoonlijkheid, qua postuur en qua karakter. Hij heeft zijn stempel gedrukt op de kinderen. Zijn zoons Knelis en Leen haalden vaak opa Leendert van der Torre erbij als Willem weer eens dronken was.
Volgens Willem stamde de familie af van de Hugenoten.

Anekdote (2011) van kleindochter Johanna Maria van der Torre: De zonen van Willem hadden geen zin om visser te worden, ze vonden vis ook niet lekker. Willem had land voor ze gekocht zodat ze als tuinder konden werken. Hij wilde echter wel dat ze voor hem werkten. Dat weigerden ze op een gegeven moment en ze gingen in staking. Willem legde zijn buks op tafel en dreigde met schieten als ze niet aan het werk gingen. (De zoons hielden echter stug vol...)

Anekdote (2011) van kleinzoon Willem Mostert: zijn vrouw Johanna Maria Mulder en hun dochters wilde wel eens "schuine" gordijnen voor de ramen hebben. Wilem vond dat onzin en zonde van het geld. Toen moeder en dochters terug kwamen van het booschappen doen had Willem zijn onderbroeken voor de ramen gehangen, dan was het toch ook goed?
