No, a family archive has no folders or albums. All photos and documents are in one overview. Still, you can organise them well. You do that with keywords.

Why keywords instead of folders?

A photo often belongs in more than one folder. A wedding photo from 1952 belongs to "De Vries family", to "weddings" and to "the fifties". With folders you have to choose. With keywords you simply give the photo all three labels.

How it works

  1. Open a photo and click Tags.
  2. Type a keyword, for example wedding, and save. You can add several.
  3. Click a keyword in the overview. You then see only the photos with that label.

You can also filter on two keywords at once. For example wedding and Zwolle.

Useful keywords

  • Family names: De Vries, Bakker
  • Type: memorial card, school photo, record
  • Place: Zwolle, Parental home
  • Period: 1950s, war
  • Origin: grandma's album

Participants can add keywords too. As archivist you can rename or merge keywords.
