Question/answer » I have a better version of my family tree, do I have to delete my publication first?

In short: No. You can update your publication with new data at any time. So you don't have to delete your publication first and then upload a new publication. In fact, this is not recommended. Genealogy Online keeps various data for each publication, including an explanatory text, starting points, stories, suggestions for online scans and suggestions for starting points in other publications. If you delete your publication, all these things will also be deleted!

To update your publication in terms of data, do the following:

  • export all your data (ie "old" and "new / updated") to a GEDCOM file;
  • log in to Genealogy Online (top right in the Users menu, the Log in option);
  • if you have multiple publications: choose the publication that you want to update (if you have one publication, it will be automatically selected);
  • choose the option 'Manage publication' and then the option 'Refresh publication (upload new GEDCOM)';
  • you can now upload the GEDCOM file exported in the first step and this will update your publication.
