    VELINGIUS (Abdias), overl. te Leiden in 1735. Hij was een zoon van Wilhelmus Velingius (1), die volgt, en werd predikant te Nijkerk in 1677, te Groningen in 1678, te Leiden in 1693; emeritus in 1724.

    Genoemde Abdias Velingius was van 1678 tot 1693 predikant van Groningen, waarna hij naar Leiden vertrok, waar hij in 1735 stierf. Volgens het Ommelander Borgenboek was hij getrouwd met Bernardina van Ewsum, die via haar moeder, een MacDowell, in 1706 het huis Elmersma aan de zuidkant van het Hoendiep in Hoogkerk erfde. Waarschijnlijk hebben Velingius en vrouw dit borgje niet veel later verkocht.

    Op de Elmersmaborg woonden William MacDowell die getrouwd was met Bernadina van Fritema. William MacDowell was één van de eerste 4 professoren van de Universiteit van Groningen.
