    WIDMARIUS (Abdias), geb. te Lemgo (Westfalen) 13 Sept. 1591, overl. te Groningen 23 Mei 1668, zoon van Andrias Widmarius, rector, later predikant te Bremen. Hij studeerde te Heidelberg en te Marburg, en werd predikant te Altorf (bij Spiers) en te Neuhaus (bij Worms). De 30-jarige oorlog (die van de 350 predikanten slechts 30 overliet) deed hem naar ons land vluchten. Te Amsterdam oefende hij zich in de hollandsche taal met den besten uitslag gedurende ongeveer anderhalf jaar. Later is hij zelfs verkozen tot de de revisie van de Statenvertaling als opvolger van Jac. Rolandus. Hij werd predikant te Uitgeest 20 Nov. 1624, te Gouda in 1638, hoogleeraar te Harderwijk in 1644 en te Groningen 4 Juni 1645. Hij bleef er tot zijn dood.
