Hij is door aankoop ca. 1675 heer van Hankema te Zuidhorn, lid van Gedeputeerde Staten, lid van de Staten-Generaal, luitenant van de hoofdmannenkamer. Waarschijnlijk verwierf de familie Clant door het huwelijk met Margrieta Josina Ripperda het huis Juckema. Nadien werd Juckema eerst in de 17e eeuw een borg genoemd. De laatste adellijke bewoners waren Lambert Tjarda van Starkenborg, gehuwd met een dame Clant, die de borg in 1712 verkochten waarna er een eind kwam aan de borgfunctie.
