Egbert Clant is heer van Nittersum, lid van de Staten der Ommelanden, en lid van de landraad van de hertog van Alençon. Egbert Clant ondertekende met enige anderen namens de Ommelanden de Unie van Utrecht. Kleinzoon Adriaan Clant werd bekend als afgevaardigde van de Staten-Generaal bij de Vrede van Munster (1648). Gerard ter Borg schilderde de onderhandelingen. Het doek met daarop Adraan Clant hangt tot vandaag in de Friedensaal te Munster.
