David of Strathbogie, 12th Earl of Atholl and supposedly 3rd Lord (Baron)Strabolgi; born c1332; participated on English side in Hundred Years Warin France from 1355; married between 24 Sep 1342 and 1361 Elizabeth(married 2nd John Malewayn and died 22 or 23 Oct 1375), daughter ofHenry, 2nd Lord (Baron) Ferrers (of Groby), and dspm 10 Oct 1369, whenthe supposed Barony of Strabolgi is deemed by the House of Lords 1914resolution to have fallen into abeyance and the Earldom of Atholl,inasmuch as such an entity existed as an English peerage dignity at all,probably expired. EARLDOM of ATHOLL (XIV*, 12) 1335 to 1369

DAVID (OF STRATHBOGIE), EARL OF ATHOLL [Scotland? or England?], also LORDSTRATHBOGIE [England], only son and heir He was three years old in 1335.He had seizin 8 May 1355. In I355 he, who was then of age, accompaniedEdward, Prince of Wales, into France. He was summoned to Parliament 20January (1365/6) 39 Edward Ill, to 6 April (1369) 43 Edward III, the writbeing directed to him (as it had been to his father and grandfather) as"David Strabolgi comiti Athol".

He married, between 24 September 1342 and 18 July 1356, Elizabeth [notCatharine], daughter of Henry (FERRERS), 2nd LORD FERRERS OF GROBY) byIsabel, daughter and coheir of Theobald (VERDON), 2nd LORD VERDON. Hedied s,p,m., 10 October 1369 aged 48, when any English BARONY OFSTRATHBOGIE (and any right to an Earldom of Atholl as far as created bythe English writ of summons in 1321) fell into abeyance, while theScottish EARLDOM OF ATHOLL [excepting only as far as acknowledged by theEnglish writs of summons] had been more than sixty years forfeited. Hiswidow had a writ of livery 12, and an order for assignment of dower 14February 1369/70. She married 2ndly, John Malewayn. She died 22 or 23October 1375, at Ashford, Kent, and was buried there.
