Johannes Willemsz Rutten, from Land van Gulik (Limburg) married Maijken Willems from Zwijndrecht in 1649.
Among their descendants is Johannes Rutten (1809-1884)
Johannes Rutten was a painter and topographical draftsman, he married Mathilda Maria van Strij (1813-1878) in 1840. She is a granddaughter of Abraham van Strij (1754-1826) also a painter, Johannes was one of his last pupils.
Rutten regularly went into the city to make sketches of striking buildings, buildings that were demolished in that period have been preserved for oblivion.
From the beginning of 1700 a number of descendants of Johannes Rutten and Maijken Willems took the family name Ridderhof.
The Rutte family, known for Rutte jenever, is not part of this genealogy. I have drawn up this genealogy partly on the basis of information that I received from Mr. D. Rutten.
