Notes about Wilmer Andrew Kaiser

"Wilmer Andrew Kaiser, was was born April 23, 1917.

The below account of Wilmer and Iola, was written, by Iola, many years ago. She gave it to us, with her Hill Genealogy, in the early 1970's.

Co-owner and manager of the Kaiser Electric Co., an appliance store in Freeburg, IL.  Wilmer was also a farmer. The places he lived were: Freeburg, New Athens and Smithton Twsp. in St. Clair Co., IL. Wilmer and family are Baptist.

Wilmer Andrew Kaiser met Iola Avenel Hill after she had graduated from school.  Iola was working for her aunt, Arzella Stookey, who was seriously Ill.    ".....They began dating and were married about two years later, Sept. 29, 1935.  They lived about four miles south of Freeburg on the farm where Wilmer and his parents had lived since he was a little boy.  Wilmer was the son of Andrew Kaiser and Clara Meng Kaiser.  He had been farming with the help of his mother since he was quite young because his father was ill.  Andrew Kaiser passed away the summer before Wilmer and Iola were married.  Wilmer's mother stayed with them part of the time, and part time with her parents who needed help.  Clara was a wonderful mother-in-law."

Wilmer attended Five Forks Grade School and New Athens High School.  Wilmer and Iola farmed for about eleven years, and he also drove a truck part time for (blank space here) Bakertown?? Trucking Co.  In 1947 they moved to her father's home to help her father and aunt, since her aunt Melissa was losing her eye-sight.  They enlarged and re-modeled Vando's home and lived there.  Wilmer no longer farmed but managed an appliance store in Freeburg, owned by his brother, Frank.  After managing the store for ten years, they bought the busines and in 1962, they bought a larger building at 201 W. High in Freeburg and moved their store there.  They have one son, Charles, who is associated with them in their business.  After Charles began to work for them, they also took on the lawn equipment line which has been responsible for a large expansion of their sales.  Charles has complete charge of lawn equipment."  (Iola Avenel Hill Kaiser, February 8, 1968).
