Tijdens de tweede wereldoorlog, op 6 of 7 november 1944 wordt Jaap Koek door de Duitse bezetter opgebracht voor de Arbeitseinzats. Zijn verre oom Ger Jannink (1900-1976) weet hem uit de kollone van opgebrachte jongeren te redden door van jas en pet te ruilen en zelf de plek van Jaap in te nemen. Een eerste poging valt meteen op en onder dreiging met geweren wordt de vluchtpoging opgegeven, maar een tweede poging is wel succesvol.
In 1944, duikt hij onder op Stepelerveld, de boerderij van zijn oom Ebs, o.a. bij Klaas Zijlstra (de bedrijfsleider van Stepelerveld) thuis onder de vloer.

Op 1 september 1949 treedt hij in dienst als kantoorbediende op de afdeling afrekeningen bij Schellen Scheepvaart & bevrachting n.v. te Rotterdam. Over de periode september t/m december ontvangt hij ƒ 395,13 bruto / ƒ 367,60 netto inclusief ƒ 95,13 bruto/ƒ 75,00 netto gratificatie.

Op ca. 1 april 1950 betrekt hij een kamer in ဘDe Belderမ, een villa aan de Enschedesestraat 382 te Hengelo, die hij huurt voor ƒ100,- per maand (incl. gemeenschappelijke maaltijden)van de Algemene Maatschappij voor Jongeren in Twente. Normaal tarief is dan ƒ 125,-, hij heeft wat afgedongen in ruil voor een mindere kamer.

Op 13 november 1951 wordt een woonvergunning verstrekt om van Enschedesestraat 283 in Hengelo te verhuizen naar G.W. Burgerplein 283, Rotterdam - ·Äòterugkeer naar ouderlijke woning·Äô.
In 1952 maakt hij een elf-daagse voettocht van Callander naar Braemar in Schotland.

Op 20 oktober 1953 doet hij het examen Vakbekwaamheid voor de Kantoormachinehandel.
Op 17 december 1953 wordt een vergunning verstrekt tot ingebruikneming van een woongelegenheid Bornsestraat 6, Hengelo, bij mej. W.J.A. Zehender-Traus.

24 oktober 1968 arbeidsovereenkomst tussen Veenman Kantoormachines NV en J. Koek, adjunct directeur, salaris 36.000,- per jaar vermeerderd met een tantième van 1,25% over de winst voor belasting, 4 X 5 dagen vakantie per jaar.
