Frans II (Fontainebleau, 19 januari 1544 – Orléans, 5 december 1560), koning van Frankrijk van 1559 tot aan zijn dood, was de oudste zoon van Hendrik II en Catharina de' Medici, uit het Huis Valois-Angoulême. Hij was een zorgenkind, zwak van geest en lichaam. Hij huwde op 24 april 1558 met Maria Stuart, koningin van Schotland, die aan het Franse hof werd opgevoed. Zijn 17 maanden durende regering stond volkomen onder de invloed van zijn regenten, de hertog Frans van Guise en de kardinaal Karel van Lotharingen en van zijn moeder.

Een poging tot staatsgreep van protestantse samenzweerders om de jonge koning vanuit het kasteel van Amboise te ontvoeren mislukte doordat Jacobus van Savoye-Nemours op 15 maart enkele samenzweerders kon arresteren. 1200 samenzweerders werden terechtgesteld.

Op 5 december 1560 overleed Frans II in Orléans, Loiret, op 16-jarige leeftijd aan een oorontsteking en een abces in zijn hersenen, zonder nakomelingen. Hij werd begraven in de Saint-Denisbasiliek en opgevolgd door zijn broer, Karel.
