Notes about Albertine Agnes van Nassau

Albertine Agnes van Nassau (Den Haag, 9 april 1634 — Oranjewoud, Friesland, 24 mei 1696), was de vijfde dochter van stadhouder Frederik Hendrik en Amalia van Solms. Mede via haar stamt het huidige Nederlandse koningshuis af van Willem van Oranje.

Albertine Agnes trouwde op 2 mei 1652 te Kleef met Willem Frederik van Nassau-Dietz (1613-1664). Uit dit huwelijk werden geboren:

Amalia (1655-1695), gehuwd met Johan Willem van Saksen-Eisenach (1666-1729)
Hendrik Casimir (1657-1696), gehuwd met Henriëtte Amalia van Anhalt-Dessau (1666-1726)
Sophia Hedwig (1664-1667)
Na de dood van haar man Willem Frederik in 1664 werd ze in Friesland regentes voor haar zoon Hendrik Casimir II. Tijdens het regentschap moest Albertine Agnes in 1672 het hoofd bieden aan de aanvallen van Bernhard von Galen, de bisschop van Münster.

In 1676 kocht Albertine Agnes een landgoed nabij Heerenveen, dat Oranjewoud ging heten. Ze liet hier lange lanen, singels en tuinen in barokstijl aanleggen en liet een begin maken met de bouw van een paleis, Paleis Oranjewoud, waarvan allereerst de twee vleugels werden gerealiseerd. Op dit buiten is zij overleden. Haar stoffelijk overschot werd bijgezet in de Grafkelder van de Friesche Nassau's in Leeuwarden.
