Fragment de Veth Gouda
Het Fragment de Veth beslaat de periode tussen 1580 en 1720. De familie komt met regelmaat voor in de weesboeken maar zonder veel details. Er voor de liefhebber dus nog veel uit te zoeken.
De stamvader Willem Wouters de Veth was, gezien het beroep van zijn zonen, vrijwel zeker schipper. Dit moet hebben bijgedragen aan de genen van zijn verre nazaat Lucas Willems de Veth, die als Schout bij Nacht van Holland en Friesland zijn sporen op zee verdiende. In tegenstelling tot vele zeehelden stierf hij niet in het harnas. De liefde bracht hem in Purmerend waar hij als notabele en welgestelde loodwit fabrikant stierf.
