In december 1937 trouwt Adriaan Willem Griep te Amsterdam met Gerarda Joanna (Gradie) Knipscheer, geboren op 9 juni 1914 te Amsterdam als dochter van Herman Marius Knipscheer en van Maria Gorlach.

Ze krijgen, te Amsterdam, drie kinderen: Amelia Marie (Ameet 10 oktober 1938, Amsterdam - 02 april 1997, Voorburg) Willem Marius (Kuuk 1940) en Arjen Reijer (Arjen 24 maart 1942, Amsterdam - 19 december 1993, Voorhout)

 

Het huwelijk tussen de altijd hard werkende Adri en de artistieke, muzikale Gradie is niet ideaal. Als Adri patiënten ontvangt in het huis aan de Lairessestraat in Amsterdam, en Gradie met haar vrienden musiceert, leidt dat tot onderlinge irritaties.

 

Als Adri ziek wordt komen zijn zuster Mien (Wilhelmina Cornelia), die verpleegster is, en zijn moeder naar Amsterdam om hem te verzorgen. Gradie komt hier niet aan te pas.

 

Slechts vijf maanden na zijn oudere broer Jaap (Jacob Pieter Jansen), op 22 december 1953, overlijdt Adriaan Willem op 46-jarige leeftijd aan de gevolgen van darmkanker.

Hij wordt gecremeerd te Driehuis-Westerveld.

Zijn echtgenote, Gradie Knipscheer, overleeft hem bijna veertig jaar. Zij overlijdt op 19 februari 1991 te Bilthoven, 76 jaar oud
