Notes about Jacob Pieter Jansen Griep

Jacob Pieter Jansen Griep (Jaap) wordt geboren op 24 augustus 1897 te Rilland-Bath, als tweede zoon van Willem Griep en Adriana Verplanke. Hij is vernoemd naar zijn grootvader van moederszijde, Jacob Pieter Jansen Verplanke.

 

Evenals zijn oudere broer Cornelis (Kees) bezoekt hij de H.B.S. in Bergen op Zoom. Jaap is de enige van de broers en zusters die niet in het medische wereldje terechtkomt. Hij volgt de opleiding tot landmeter, en gaat werken als landmeter bij het Kadaster. Hij is overigens de rustigste van de kinderen van Willem en Adriana, hij treedt weinig op de voorgrond, en is kalm en bedachtzaam.

 

Op 17 juli 1928 trouwt Jaap te Assen met Alberta Klaasje (Berta) Alink, geboren op 27 juni 1908 te Assen als dochter van Mannes Alink en van Henderika Margaretha Somer.

Jacob Pieter Jansen Griep en Alberta Klaasje Alink krijgen vier kinderen: Adriana (1929, Assen), Mannes (1933, Amsterdam), Willem Hendrik (1938, Amsterdam) en Hendrik (1943, Amsterdam)

 

Het gezin woont enige tijd in Amsterdam, naast het huis van de familie van Herman Krebbers, de bekende violist. Later verhuizen ze naar Haarlem, en wonen daar aan de Delftlaan 103.

 

In 1953 moet Jaap Griep geopereerd worden wegens maagkanker. Het gaat daarna een tijdje goed, maar al snel openbaren zich tekenen van uitzaaiingen in de hersenen. Jacob Pieter Jansen Griep is 55 jaar oud als hij op 27 juli 1953 te Haarlem overlijdt. Nog geen half jaar later zal ook zijn jongere broer Adri aan de gevolgen van kanker overlijden.

 

Berta Griep-Alink blijft wonen in het huis aan de Delftlaan in Haarlem. Ze geniet een goede gezondheid, en overlijdt volkomen onverwacht op 22 december 1979 te Haarlem. Na Kerstmis, op 28 december, wordt ze gecremeerd te Driehuis-Westerveld.
