Anna Catherina Krause was born in Ermentheis, Prussia, on March 20, 1845, to Konrad Krause and Julianne Ackermann Krause. She was also about five years old when her family immigrated to Texas. Theodore and Catherine were married in Bexar County, Texas, on August 6, 1865. They had a family of thirteen children: Mathilda Gerfers, born September 13, 1866, who would later marry Henry Christian Schmidt; August Peter Gerfers, born about 1868, who would marrry Mary Kneupper; Herman Gerfers, born about 1869, who may have died at a young age; Gustavus W Gerfers, born July 29, 1870, who would marry Anna Kneupper; Paulina Anna Gerfers, born April 7, 1873, who would marry W J Wegner; Henry C Gerfers, born November 28, 1874; who would marry first Allie Criswell and then May Emma Benefield; Joe Max Gerfers, born September 11, 1876, who would marry Emma Kneupper; Julia Gerfers, born October 20, 1878, who would marry Gottfried Elbel; Alvina Anna Gerfers, born August 2, 1880, who would marry Charles Vollmering; Mary Anna Gerfers, born July 9, 1882, who would marry Edward Kretzer; and Conrad Gerfers, born November 1, 1884, who would marry Lillie Craig. Two other children, Anna Gerfers and Adolf Gerfers, died as infants. Sometime after their marriage in Bexar County in 1865 and the time when the 1870 census was taken, Theodore and Catherine moved from Bexar County to Smithson's Valley in Comal County. They were living in Kendall County by the time of the 1880 census and in Blanco County by the date of the 1900 census. Theodore was a farmer and rancher throughout his life. The family maintained the Lutheran faith of Theodore's parents, Johann and Maria Gerfers. Anna Catherina Krause Gerfers died on July 10, 1902, at the age of 57. Theodore W Gerfers died on August 11, 1916, at the age of 76, by self- inflicted hanging. Both are buried in a small family cemetary about half way between Kendalia and Blanco.
