Notes about Harold Elwyn Corbin

Notes provided by Ilo Lavon CORBIN, sister of Harold CORBIN:
"Harold had a charming personality. I, Joan loved his laugh, it was almost like a giggle. His eyes would twinkle, and with that boyish grin; he was irresistible. Harold was my favorite Uncle. He was very loving and affectionate.

Harold drove a truck in Sterling, Logan County, Colorado, in his early years. He met Adeline, a neighbor girl. She had a daughter, Roberta out of wedlock. She lived with Harold and his mother and dad, Jesse and Minnie CORBIN, for many years. Harold married Adeline after five years, she begged him to marry her.

I understand that he married Adeline when Roberta was two years old, so this sounds to me like she had the baby during Harold's and Adeline's courtship. Harold worked 12 hours a day during the depression. He washed dishes 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for $1.00 a shift of 12 hours, plus three meals a day. That is $7.00 a week. On the other hand Lavon, his sister, worked as a waitress for three times as much money. She received $24.00 per week, plus three meals; which calculates to $168.00 per week.

Harold and Adeline and Roberta moved to Los Angeles and purchased a home. after renting a few years.

Harold and Adeline could not conceive a child until they got help from a doctor. Roberta was Addie's child before she married Harold. Harold's sperm count was low. Then they had to girls, Terri and Barbara.

Unfortunately, the bottle got a hold on Harold and destroyed his comfortable life with Adeline. They divorced."
