Notes about Rosetta Anne Corbin

This information was provided by Ilo LaVon CORBIN in a Interview with her daughter, Joan Marlene Hamilton; 2000.

"Rosetta was a short woman; 4'11" tall. She had blue eyes like her father. She was rather hippie and round. Her hair was very dark brown with fair, fair skin. She was a good person.

Rosetta left home at age 17. She waited tables with her sister Marie. They both lived in a dormitory.

Rosetta married at age 19; she was so frightened on her wedding night, she slept on the floor. They removed to North Platt, Nebraska. Rosetta. They eventually moved to Portland, Oregon.

Rosetta was an odd person. She would purchase clothes from The Goodwill Industries; wash & iron the clothes, then just store them in the basement.

Her husband would travel and leave her alone in her home in Oregon for long periods of time. He traveled with the railroad. He would send her money to live on. They were basically; married singles.

Rosetta eventually moved back to Sterling, Colorado where she lived, with her cats. She would not take Social Security as she thought it to be charity. She would not turn on the heat to save money; she would just stay in bed all day to keep warm; this was in Colorado where it snowed in the winter.

Rosetta lived in a convalescent hospital the last 10 years or so of her life. At that time, she was on Social Security. Bessie, her sister was responsible for getting her in the hospital. Her sister Bessie said, "at least she was warm, has hot meals and she seems to be happy". Rosetta would help set the tables for dinner, she like being useful. Rosetta died in her 90's."
