WILLIAM DELAY CALLED HOME
Died at Mt. Pleasant Saturday of pneumonia, G.A.R. Services
Word was received Saturday afternoon of the death at Mt. Pleasant of Wm. Delay, a former resident of Appanoose County. Mr. Delay was born in Vermilion County, Ill, June 16, 1834, and came to Centerville in 1860 and enlisted in 3rd Iowa Cavalry in 1861, under Captain Horton and served four years. He was married to Elizabeth Riggle in 1869. After the war they moved west and lived there the greater part of his life. He was in a sanitorium in the west but they thought he would receive better care here at Mt. Pleasant and he was placed there in March of this year and died Nov 11 of plural pneumonia. The funeral was held this afternoon from the Grand Army hall at the court house at 2:00 o'clock the services being conducted by the G.A.R.'s and internment at Oakland cemetery. Mrs. Delay survives him and is at the home of her sister, Mrs. James Wilson at 731 North Ninth Street. Mr. Delay united with the M.E. church in his early manhood.
