Chester served with the 3rd Oregon Infantry, National Guard on the Mexican Border and with the 162nd Infantry Regiment from Oregon during the first World War in France. He was a member of Company L from Dallas, Oregon during both periods. His interest was always in farming in which he was successful in many types including dairy and livestock.
During the Housing Boom following WWII, he developed a large tract at the Southeast boundary of the City of Corvallis on which he build one hundred modern homes. These found ready market and added another success to his many ventrures.
Chester was always and enthusiastic sportsman with hunting, fishing and trapshooting being his interests. He has a number of trophies taken on trips into Canada and to the tropical waters of Central and South America. Displayed on the walls of the recreation room of his home in Corvallis, Oregon are mounted specimens of his skill as a hunter and fisherman.
