John (Jan) was born on October 16, 1899. When John was 14 years old, he quit school and started working for farmers in the Campen, Germany area. ... Around 1917 John started delivering horses for the German army during World War I. ...
In 1920 John married Neelke Adam de Vries. Their first child, Annie, was born on January 21, 1921. In June of 1923 their second childm, Neele, was born. On June 9, 1923 Neelke died at the age of 24 from complications from the birth ofNeele. Neele, who was born with a hole in his spine, died on September 14, 1923. ... ... John arrived in the U.S. in 1924. ..."

The farm was seven miles east and two miles north of Buffalo Center. ... In 1944 John and Kate bought and moved to a farm two miles south and two and three-quarter miles west of Buffalo Center. ... They lived there until 1960 when they purchased a home in Buffalo Center. In February of 1979 Kate became illand died of cancer on April 11, 1979. John moved to the Buffalo Center nursing home in December of 1979 and resided there until his death on January 16, 1985. John and Kate were the parents of nine children: ... Raymond; ..."

Raymond Murra, the son of John Sr. and Katie (Winter) Murra, was born March 23, 1935, on the family farm northwest of Thompson, IA. In 1945, Ray and his family moved to the farm southwest of Buffalo Center, where he lived until movinginto Buffalo Center in June 2009.
Ray received his education by attending country schools in rural Kossuth County, and Winnebago County, IA. Ray left school after the 8th grade to work on the family farm which he later purchased from his parents and farmed until hisretirement in 2002.
On June 23, 1961, Ray was united in marriage to Ruth Bosma at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. He attended the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center, where he assisted with various projects around the church andhe also served as an usher. Ray enjoyed his family, his antique International tractors, old tyme music and helping others out whenever needed.
Ray passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at his home in Buffalo Center after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Ray leaves to mourn his wife, Ruth, of Buffalo Center; his sons: Rick Murra and his wife, Patricia, of Burnsville, MN and Royce Murra of Blue Earth, MN; three sisters: Lydia Lovik of Forest City; Clara Swalve of Ames, and Mildred and herhusband, Byron Stromer, of Garner; three brothers: Willis Murra of Buffalo Center; Harold Murra and his wife, Arline, of Blue Earth, MN and Cecil Murra and his wife, Virgie Ann, of Albert Lea, MN; as well as many other relatives andfriends. Ray is preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, John Murra Jr. and Donald Murra."
