  Full date of 19 May 1870 and place, Pettigo, County Donegal, Ireland, from handwritten notes by John J. Dolan.
  Year of birth given as 1870 on tombstone inscription in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Pennsylvania, recorded by Robert M. Simon on 29 October 2006.
  Like a number of other dates recorded by John J. Dolan, this date is somewhat suspect in terms of the year given. Since John J. Dolan's actual year of birth was likely 1884, it is unlikely that his mother was 14 years old at the time, so an earlier year of birth is likely.
  A full date of birth for a Mary Ann Kerr, daughter of Thomas Kerr and Ann McGarigle, is given as 4 November 1864 in three records in the "Ireland--Births and Baptisms, 1620-1881" database on www.familysearch.org. Birthplace given as Donegal, Ireland.

Simon in October 2011 from the parish office. Parents named as Thomas Kerr and Anne McGarrigle. Witnesses/godparents were Robert Mulrone and Mary Mulrone.
  Full date of 4 November 1864 given for the baptism of Mary Ann, daughter of Thomas Kerr and Anne McGargle (McGarrigle), in the 1851-1877 Baptismal Registry for the Parish of Carn, Pettigo-Belleek, transcribed by John Cunningham and Vynette Sage, and posted as an Excel spreadsheet (1851-1877_Baptisms,Pettigo(Fathers,alphabetical))(J.Cunningham_&_V._Sage).xls) at www.fermanagh-gold.com.   IMMIGRATION:
  On the New York State Death Certificate No. 23745, Mary A. Dolan was described as having been in the United States for 12 years. This would indicate a year of immigration of 1884-1885. This does not accord, though, with known records of her in Ireland until January 1886. It is more likely that she came to the United States in 1886-1887, as the first unambiguous record of her in the United States is the birth record of her daughter Margaret in Philadelphia in January 1888.
  A passenger arrival record that fits this pattern of facts can be found in the "New York, Passenger Arrivals, 1820-1957" data file on www.ancestry.com. In this record, Mary A. Dolan, age 21, is traveling with John G. Dolan, age 2, and Mary A. Dolan, age 6 months. The three members of the family arrived in New York on 9 March 1887. This comports with the 1886 immigration record for Peter Dolan traveling alone, and the arrival date agrees well with the birth date of the next child in the family in Philadelphia in January 1888.
  Mary Ann Dolan apparently returned to Ireland in around 1892, as she gave birth to her son Thomas Dolan in Tamlaght, where her sister was living. The Irish Civil Registration birth record for Thomas Dolan states that her husband, Peter, was living in America. Thus, he apparently stayed in the United States while she returned to Ireland.
  A second passenger arrival record in the "New York, Passenger Arrivals, 1820-1957" data file on www.ancestry.com, from 1893, shows Mary Ann Dolan and her four children traveling back to the United States. The five members of the family arrived in New York on 11 September 1893. This comports with the known birth of the next child in the family in Philadelphia in June 1894.
  
  DEATH:
  Full date of death given as 30 July 1897 on New York City Death Certificate # 23745. Certificate states that Mary A. Dolan, age 29 years, died in Manhattan, New York City, New York. Parents named as Thomas and Ann Carr, both born in Ireland. Cause of death was "phthisis pulmonalis," or pulmonary tuberculosis. Contributing cause of death was listed as exhaustion. In contemporary medical texts, phthisis was often described as involving emaciation or wasting away of the patient.
  Full date of 28 July 1902 and place, New York, from handwritten notes by John J. Dolan. As discussed under his record, the dates that he provided for major life events were consistently off by 3-5 years.
  Year of death given as 1902 on tombstone inscription in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Pennsylvania, recorded by Robert M. Simon on 29 October 2006. As the date was specified by John J. Dolan, the above caveat applies to this record, as well.
  According to Catherine Dolan Simon, died in childbirth.
  The New York City death certificate date is further supported by the facts that the second marriage of Peter Dolan took place in about 1901, and that 3 children of his first marriage were identified as being resident in an orphanage in 1900. Both John J. Dolan and Nan Dolan, upon re-immigration to the United States in 1902, stated that they were last in the United States in 1898. This further supports a date of death of Mary Ann Dolan in 1897, rather than 1902.
  
  BURIAL:
  Originally buried in Calvary Cemetery, New York City. This place of burial mentioned in the State of New York Death Certificate No. 23745. Date of burial was 2 August 1897 (although the "2" appears to be written over a "3"). As the death certificate was stamped as filed in the New York City Bureau of Records on 2 August 1897, this supports the date of burial. She was buried in a family grave plot, but was the only member ever buried there. According to the office at Calvary Cemetery, in a telephone call to Robert M. Simon on 3 October 2012, after she was removed from the grave in 1929, the family gave up the grave site.
  Transferred to Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, in March 1929. Information on prior burial from letter to the Trustees of St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City, from John J. Dolan, dated 21 February 1929, authorizing the disinterment of Mary Dolan from Calvary Cemetery and her transfer to Holy Cross Cemetery. Copy of the letter in the possession of Robert M. Simon.
  Reburial in Holy Cross Cemetery on 16 March 1929, according to records of Holy Cross Cemetery furnished to Catherine Dolan Simon ("Lot Inquiry List") on 5 June 2007.
