  Year of birth estimated to be 1812-1813, according to age (75 years) in death record indexed in the Irish Civil Registration Indexes online at www.familysearch.org. The death index record for Simon Carr was in the January-March quarter of, Volume 2, Page 37, of the Register for the Donegal Supervisory Register District, County Donegal, Ireland. A copy of this record is in the possession of Robert M. Simon.

  
  

  Assignment as father of the Thomas Carr who married Ann McGarrigle can be supported by the fact that the tombstone for Simon and Grace Carr is shared by their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The assignment if further supported by tht that Thomas Carr's first son was also named Simon, and the dates are consistent with the range of grandparents for children who were born in the 1870s.

  
  

  Simon's place of origin is given as Inver Parish in his 1836 marriage record, which accords with other evidence of him being the brother of Jane Carr (who emigrated to Philadelphia and whose death certificate names her father as Thomas Card John Carr of Drumgorman Townland, Inver Parish, who is the informant for the Civil Deat Record of Thoams Carr of Drumgorman.

Names given in Latin as "Simonum Kerr de Inver" and "Gratiam Monaghan." Witnesses were Officiating priest was N. Ryan [Fr. Neal Ryan, the Catholic priest in Pettigo from 1827-1877].

  He is listed as being a tenant to a house on Station Island in Lough Derg, with John Leslie listed as the land owner, the house being valued at 10 shillings. Simon Kerr's house is one of only 7 such houses listed for Station Island (alson as St. Patrick's Purgatory). The other house owners were the Rev. Patrick Moynagh (the Prior of the Island), Peter Campbell, James Thompson, Anne Kane, Mary Kane, and Robert Muldoon.

  According to oral family history, Simon Carr had 4 sons, and each son settled in a different village: the eldest settled in Kilcar, Thomas Carr in Pettigo, a younger son in Croagh, and the youngest in Doorin. Kilcar, Pettigo, Croagh, andn are all located in County Donegal. Doorin is he smallest, being a locality outside of Mountcharles, according to a personal communication from Kathleen Carr to Robert Simon on 1 November 2011.

  
  

  The 1901 Census of Ireland for Croagh, County Donegal, contains one family with the Carr surname, headed by John Carr, a farmer.

  
  

  The 1901 Census of Ireland for townlands outside Mountcharles close to Doorin show two Carr families, one of which is headed by a Patrick Carr.

  
  

  The 1901 Census of Ireland for Kilcar, County Donegal, lists several Carr families.

  
  

  Other records show sons of Simon Carr in Meenshefin and Killybegs (this latter son, Bernard, then emigrated to the United States). It is hard to completely square up the oral history locations with these ones.
